David CrossDavid Cross is the clarinetist and leader of the ensemble as well it founder and primary arranger. At the Eastman School of Music, he studied clarinet with Stanley Hasty and saxophone with Ramon Ricker. He later studied with Boston Symphony clarinetist Peter Hadcock for several years. Since 1980 Mr. Cross has been the principal clarinetist for the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra, performing with such noted guests artists as The Paul Winter Consort, The New Black Eagle Jazz Band, and the Sesame Street Show. He has also performed with the New Bedford Symphony, Arcadia Winds, The New Sousa Band, appearing with guest vocalist Anna Maria Albergetti, and performed in a national tour with the Artie Shaw Orchestra. An accomplished theatre orchestra musician, Mr. Cross performs frequently with the Company Theatre and the Cape Cod Playhouse. He is a regular member of the orchestra for Heart to Heart Players, where he has performed with Broadway stars Shirley Jones, and Betty Buckley. In addition to his performing career, David is a dedicated teacher, and has been a member of the faculty of South Shore Conservatory since the early 1980s. During the 1990s he served as the Assistant to the Director of the Boston University School of Music. In 1998, Mr. Cross left Boston University, pursuing a second career in Computer Technology. In 2004 he began teaching instrumental music in the Mansfield, MA school system and continues to be a busy freelance musician and teacher. Janice NortonJanice Norton has been the ensemble's bassoonist since 1991. She's also the Director of Instrumental Music for the Millis Public Schools, a Visiting Lecturer at Bridgewater State College and bassonist for the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra. Janice has studied with Edward Gobrect, Donald Bravo,Sr., and Atillio Poto. She received her Bachelor of Music in both Music Education and Performance from Ithaca College and her Masters in Music Performance at Boston Conservatory of Music. While specializing in double reed instruction, Janice also plays and teaches clarinet, flute, and saxophone. She has been an All State MENC Adjudicator for many years, serves as the Musical Director of the Millis Theater Group and still finds the time to perform in musicals including Oliver, The Music Man, South Pacific, Pirates of Penzance, and The Sound of Music. Matt CrossMatt Cross has been the flutist with the ensemble since its inception. At North Texas State, he studied flute with Mary Karen Clardy. He has performed in a master class with Julius Baker. Matt is the principal flutist with the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra and has performed with Betty Buckley (from “Cats”) and Ron Della Chiesa. His hike of the entire Appalachian Trail is one accomplishment he’ll never forget! In his meager spare time, Matt enjoys restoring old houses. |
