Norman Daoust
Norman plays guitar and mandolin with the group. He has enjoyed musical performing since 1965 when he made his professional debut with The Twilighters. His guitar studies with Dave Huxtable, Steve Carter, and Jack Wilkins have served him well as has his musical education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and Berklee College of Music.
Norman has accompanied nationally acclaimed artists including Bob Eberle, Anne Marie Alberghetti (star of “West Side Story”), Al Martino, Marvin Hamlisch, and Tommy Tune. He prefers playing music of various styles including swing, pop, jazz, dixieland, and classical. In addition to performing, he has contracted orchestras of up to 20-pieces to accompany internationally known entertainers including Anne Marie Alberghetti and Al Martino, Carol Channing, Mickey Rooney and Donald O’Connor, and Wayne Newton.
When not involved in musical activities, Norman is the principal consultant for Daoust Associates providing data modeling consulting for organizations around the country and is an avid organic gardener.
David Cross
David Cross is the clarinetist and saxophonist with the ensemble as well as one of its founders and primary musical director. At the Eastman School of Music, he studied clarinet with Stanley Hasty and saxophone with Ramon Ricker. He later studied with Boston Symphony clarinetist Peter Hadcock for several years.
Since 1980 Mr. Cross has been the principal clarinetist for the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra, performing with such noted guests artists as The Paul Winter Consort, The New Black Eagle Jazz Band, and the Sesame Street Show. He has also performed with the New Bedford Symphony, Arcadia Winds, The New Sousa Band, appearing with guest vocalist Anna Maria Albergetti, and performed in a national tour with the Artie Shaw Orchestra. An accomplished theatre orchestra musician, Mr. Cross performs frequently with the Company Theatre and the Cape Cod Playhouse. He is a regular member of the orchestra for Heart to Heart Players, where he has performed with Broadway stars Shirley Jones, and Betty Buckley.
In addition to his performing career, David is a dedicated teacher, and has been a member of the faculty of South Shore Conservatory since the early 1980s. During the 1990s he served as the Assistant to the Director of the Boston University School of Music. In 1998, Mr. Cross left Boston University, pursuing a second career in Computer Technology and continues to be a busy freelance musician and teacher.
Dave Chamberland
Dave Chamberland is the ensemble’s bassist. His musical diplomas are from Berklee College of Music and the University of Lowell. He studied with Steve Swallow, John Neves, Ron McClure, John Reppuci, Frank Gallagher and Larry Senibaldi.
Dave has performed at venues throughout New England including Romie’s Dinner Theatre, the 1369 Jazz Club, Ryles Jazz Club, the Odyssey cruise ship, and the North Shore Music Circus. In addition to performing with the Eastwood Swing Orchestra, he also led the band aboard the Spirit of Boston for several years. Dave has performed with celebrities including Peter Nero, Jackie Byard, Rosemary Clooney, Margaret Whiting and Helen O'Connor. He can be heard on Gian Weigner’s recording “Hangin' With M”.
Music is an integral part of Dave's life.
